One off events and activities are a good way to deliver short-term, visible outcomes and building support.
But, it is also essential to adopt a Place Plan, which can:
- Outline the vision for the place
- Create the story – where are we now and where do we want to be?
- Work collaboratively with businesses, landowners, residents and visitors to identify how the place can be improved (including how the hardware and software can be upgraded)
- Create a list of actions to be completed by various government departments, the town team, businesses, residents and other stakeholders
- The list of actions can then be “ticked off” when completed. This builds confidence, transparency and accountability
- Align various local government departments and priorities to a place-led approach (a place approach breaks down silos)

Creating great places requires a community-led approach, with a strong vision and understanding of local identity. This is achieved through the implementation of meaningful actions that are determined and acted on through a process of working together. We involve everyone interested in the long-term success of the place, including residents, businesses, stakeholders and local government staff.
Place Plans build trust, confidence, momentum, transparency and accountability.
Are you managing your place to life? (or death?).
